WordPress requirements, covered
According to wordpress.org, WordPress recommends PHP 8.3 or newer, MySQL 8.0 or MariaDB 10.6 or newer, and HTTPS. LXI Free runs PHP 8.3 and MariaDB 10.11 and issues SSL certificates automatically.
Install WordPress in four steps
- Sign up for free and pick an address such as yourblog.lxi.be.
- Confirm your email; your hosting is set up automatically.
- Open the control panel from the customer centre and choose WordPress in the web apps installer. It creates the database for you.
- Log in at yourblog.lxi.be/wp-admin, pick a theme and publish your first post.
The same installer also offers ClassicPress, a lightweight WordPress fork with the classic editor.
Keep it safe
- Update WordPress, themes and plugins regularly.
- Install only the plugins you need and delete unused ones.
- Use a long, unique admin password and avoid the username “admin”.
- Create a backup in the control panel before larger changes.
Good to know
The customer centre and control panel are currently in German; your browser can translate them. WordPress itself can be set to any language. Files are uploaded through the browser file manager or the WordPress dashboard; FTP and SFTP are not available yet. If 5 GB is not enough, Pro offers 50 GB for €9.99 per month.
